EO Scent BlendsRecipes

Summer Night

This blend is called Summer Night. It was built for the hours after the heat breaks, when the air softens and everything feels slower. Summer Night is warm, a little sensual, and quietly grounded. It is not bright or playful. It is calm, low-lit, and lingering.

Atlas cedar forms the foundation of the blend. It brings a dry, woody steadiness that feels grounding without being heavy. Ginger adds warmth and subtle movement, giving the blend a quiet pulse rather than a sharp spice. Neroli lifts everything just enough to keep the scent open and breathable. It adds a soft floral note that feels intimate rather than sweet.

Together, these oils create a scent that feels like sitting outside late in the evening, skin still warm from the day, air cooling just enough to invite stillness.

Blend Ratio

2 parts atlas cedar
1 part ginger
1 part neroli

Blend thoroughly and store in a dark glass bottle away from heat and light.

How I Use It

I work with scent blends across many forms, depending on the moment and the space. Summer Night works especially well in candles, oil burners, and diffusers, where its warmth can unfold slowly. When diluted properly, it also makes a lovely anointing oil or personal scent, particularly in the evening.

Each form brings out something slightly different, and I enjoy letting a blend move between them rather than fixing it to a single use. For a fuller explanation of how I work with scent across forms, you can read more here.

A Few Gentle Notes

This is a blend that benefits from restraint. Too much ginger can push it toward sharpness, and too much neroli can make it feel overly floral. Keeping the balance simple allows the cedar to do its quiet work.

Summer Night is not meant to energize or sedate. It is meant to accompany the transition from activity to rest, from light to shadow. Sometimes that in-between space is the most comfortable place to be.
